Giving Back to our Community


Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn’t matter to me … Going to bed at night saying we’ve done something wonderful … that’s what matters to me.” – Steve Jobs

Although this was a quote by Steve Jobs, it describes the type of person Toyota of Manhattan owner, Mr. John Giuffre is. See, Mr. Giuffre truly believes in giving back to the community. He doesn’t do it for the “limelight” or for the publicity; he does it because he is genuinely interested in helping out the communities that have helped his businesses grow over the years. In fact, he was recently quoted after Toyota of Manhattan and Bay Ridge Toyota (two of Mr. Giuffre’s Toyota dealerships) teamed up together to give a 2012 Toyota Sienna Mobility Edition to a wheelchair bound boy as saying:

I am grateful to God for what He has given me. I’m not interested in anything in return; I just want to be able to do something good, and I’m grateful that the family will have this amazing vehicle. It’s not for the publicity. I don’t want the fanfare!” – John Giuffre

It was because of this kind of thinking and community goals; my position of Social Media Manager with Toyota of Manhattan was created. Using the power of “Social Media for Good”, Toyota of Manhattan wants to help raise funds through our employees, friends, fans & customers donations (which Toyota of Manhattan will match in part) for local charities/foundations and individuals in our community in need of help.

Toyota of Manhattan has already worked with organizations such as: Susan G. Komen, Greater NYC, Mekimi Cheer-Up Squad, Toys for Tots NYC, 9/11 Memorial Fund and NYC Dept. of Health Bureau of Immunization. Currently we are running a contest on our Facebook page where our fans “Vote for their Favorite Charity” from 3 possible choices. The winning organization at the end of the contest will receive $2,500 from Toyota of Manhattan.

We would like to also work with some individuals in the Manhattan area that are in need of our help, that we can personally get involved with.

Our “Letter of Intent” in using “Social Media for Good” and getting involved in our Community.

For some of us that are more fortunate than others, it’s easier to take for granted the “simple things” in life. Such as being able to breathe on our own, eating, walking, seeing, hearing, touching, feeling, etc.  The amount of suffering due to the lack of medications, operations or even something as little as the lunch we threw away yesterday because we had too much to eat. In New York City alone, the statistics are unbelievably depressing, never mind the nationwide and worldwide statistics. We want to make a difference. From a family whose home was destroyed by a fire, to a foundation that’s fighting to find a cure for breast cancer, together, we can make a difference. We at Toyota of Manhattan would like to help those less fortunate and/or in need and give back to our community.

Toyota of Manhattan is part of one of the largest family-owned group of automotive dealerships in the United States, who believe firmly in and have never forgotten our roots as a ‘mom and pop’ business. Starting in 1961 with one dealership, the group has now grown over the years to 23 dealerships, Toyota of Manhattan being one of our flagships. With our great success, we would like to pay back our community that has helped us thrive.

In that sentiment, we would like to cordially invite you to join us on our Facebook and Twitter pages.  We have some big plans upcoming as Toyota of Manhattan will be working closely with local charities and foundations in order to give back to the community and we would love to have your input and participation. We invite you to let us know what causes are important to you, your family and your friends. Keep in mind, that even if you are not a Toyota of Manhattan customer, we welcome you to contribute. We value your opinions and concerns. If you are committed to, or feel strongly about a certain cause, please contact us. Any funds rose for the foundations and charities by our loyal customers and fans, will be matched in part by Toyota of Manhattan. There will be events and celebrations in the presentation of the contributions that you will be invited to and we would like you to be a part of.

During this effort,  there will be absolutely no solicitation for business or self gain. We aim only to gain the assistance and opinion of our community as to which efforts may need our support that don’t currently have our attention.
